Google Drive allows you to connect, collaborate and share documents anywhere on any device. As a result working together has never been so easy. With all this collaboration it can be tough to track all the changes made to your shared to-do lists, budgets and presentations.
To solve this problem, Google have added a new activity stream in Drive – an easy to view place to review all actions taken on your files and folders, by yourself and others who have access to them.
The stream is accessible by selecting the icon in the top right corner of your Drive homepage. Once the icon has been clicked, the activity stream will appear showing you what actions have been taken on files and folders in My Drive.
Not only will this new feature allow you to view information to specifically selected files and folders, but it also enables you to view the date of which each activity was made along with a note of who made the changes..
Here is how to track the activity of files and folders in ‘My Drive’.
1. Log into your Google Drive.
2. Click the icon in the top-right corner of your screen.
3. An activity stream will pop up to the right. Continue to scroll down the stream panel to see activity of files and folders which will be organised with the most recent changes at the top.
The types of activity that you will be able to view are:
Moving and removing
Renaming
Uploading
Sharing and unsharing
Editing and commenting
4. If there is a specific file you want to see the activity for, check the box to the left of the file and the relevant information will be shown.
In addition to viewing the activity of the file you have selected, you can also view the details of that file or folder. This is great for reviewing and making changes to the document settings e.g. sharing options, item description, folder location etc.
5. Simply click the icon next to the information section that you would like to amend.
